February 4, 2014
Poland's manufacturing sector purchasing managers' index PMI soared to 55.4 points in January from 53.2 pts in December, signaling the strongest overall improvement in operating conditions since January 2011, a PMI report by HSBC and Markit showed.
"The overall improvement in business conditions in the sector was the strongest in three years, with output, new orders, employment and purchasing activity all expanding at faster rates," the report said.
A strong improvement was seen in employment, sixth successive month of workforce expansion. "Notably, the rate of workforce growth was the strongest since the survey started in June 1998," the report said.
Backlogs of work continued to decline, but only slightly.
Inflation pressures remained subdued.
