Work by poster designer Stanisław Wieczorek, on show at the Wilanów Poster Museum, introduces audiences to a variety of graphic design techniques.

Wieczorek is a professor at the Fine Arts Academy in Warsaw and the new exhibition is the first aiming to present a retrospective of his whole career. Entitled Stanisław Wieczorek. To Myself and Others. Posters and Designs 1966-2013, the exhibition comprises Wieczorek’s posters and the logos he has designed over the years for a number of institutions. Visitors to the museum will get an insight into Wieczorek’s style, design techniques and inventive approach to art, in which he combines typography with visual messages.

The exhibition is divided into three sections. The first and largest consists of digitally blown-up posters Wieczorek designed 1966-2010. They have been specifically selected to illustrate the evolution of his style.

The second section is made up of enlarged logos that Wieczorek designed for various publications, cultural institutions, nongovernmental organizations, artistic groups and student associations. This part of his work can be seen as setting standards in graphic design.

The final section comprises screen prints of limited-edition posters that Wieczorek designed for the Oranżeria Art Gallery in Jabłonna, near Warsaw. The posters, which advertised exhibitions at the gallery, are simple in form, reduced to handwritten information about the dates and contents of the exhibitions. Wieczorek also added biographical information about the featured artists along with personal notes about them—most were friends of his.
