Some of the best French movies of recent years will be screened in May and June in several cities across Poland.

The fifth overview of new French cinema, an event organized by the French Institute in Poland and distributor Gutek Film, will feature dramas, comedies, family movies and science-fiction productions. These will include box-office hits and award winners from international festivals. Most of the films will be shown in Poland for the first time.

One of the must-sees of this year’s overview is Yves Saint-Laurent, a biopic about the legendary fashion designer. The movie portrays Saint-Laurent as a man who knew how to stand up and fight for his dreams.

Comedies being shown during this year’s overview include supercondriaque, directed by popular French comedian Dany Boon, whose previous hit comedies include Welcome to the Sticks and Nothing to Declare. The story of Romain, a 40-year-old hypochondriac who makes a mess of his best friend’s life, proved a success with viewers in France.

Other highlights include Camille Rewinds, directed by actress and director Noémie Lvovsky. This story of a disillusioned young woman who gets an opportunity to turn her life around nabbed 13 nominations for last year’s French César Awards. The score was written by Gaëtan Roussel, the leader of the folk rock band Louise Attaque. Finally, audiences will also see two period movies: The Princess of Montpensier by Bertrand Tavernier (2011 César Award for best costumes), and Michael Kohlhaas by Arnaud des Pallieres, this year’s César winner for music and sound editing.
