Sejm passes amendment to VAT regulations on business cars
February 10, 2014
Polish lower house Sejm Friday passed a bill aimed at regulating taxation of passenger cars used in business activity, the cabinet said in a press statement.
Of MPs present, 230 voted in favor and 199 voted against.
The regulation introduces a 50% deduction of car expenses in VAT settlement if the car can be used for both private and business purposes.
Full tax deduction will be applicable only to those vehicles that are used solely in running business.
Due to the amendment Poland will collect PLN 939 million less VAT receipts in 2014 and PLN 1.38 billion in 2015 vs. the 2013 level, the cabinet said when passing the bill at end-January.
In the assessment of effects of regulation out in late December, the Finance Ministry said the decline in VAT revenues in 2016 would increase to PLN 2.6 billion. At the same time, the Polish government expects income tax revenues to increase by PLN 60 million in 2014, PLN 225 million in 2015 and PLN 478 million in 2016 thanks to the tax law changes.
The new law is to come into effect as of April 1, 2014.
