Innovation Forum Focuses on Tourism
May 12, 2014
The fifth annual Innovation Forum will be held May 27-28 in Rzeszów, southeast Poland, focusing on innovation in tourism. The event will be held alongside the first Carpathian States Tourism Forum May 28.
Each year, the internationally renowned Innovation Forum focuses on innovation in a different sector of the economy. Last year, the event was attended by more than 600 participants, including government ministers, deputies, local government officials, CEOs of major companies, businessmen, industry experts, scientists and journalists.
This year’s forum will deal exclusively with innovation in tourism. The keynote speakers May 27 will include Zoltan Somogyi, the executive director of the World Tourism Organization, and the special guest May 28 will be Marek Kamiński, a famous Polish photographer and polar explorer. The forum will begin with a plenary session entitled Innovation in Tourism: The Sources and the Obstacles, followed by several concurrent panel discussions. The discussions will cover a wide range of topics, such as business and convention tourism, new technology in tourism, green innovation, innovation in public administration, the hotel trade and spa tourism.
The first Carpathian States Tourism Forum, an initiative by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, will take place at the University of Rzeszów. The attendees will include officials from the Carpathian region, businessmen and members of institutions, organizations and academic bodies which deal with tourism in the Carpathian states. This forum aims to foster cooperation between the attending officials and organizations and to help them exchange information, as proposed by the Carpathian Convention on sustainable tourism and the Sustainable Tourism Protocol to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians. Countries from the Carpathian region will use the forum to share expertise on products and marketing and negotiate projects to be undertaken jointly in the region.
The forum will be accompanied by an Innovation Village where visitors will learn about the practical sides of innovation in tourism, especially innovative tourism products in different regions of Poland. The village will be open to visitors May 27-28.
This year’s Innovation Forum has been organized by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, Rzeszów City Hall, the Innopolis Foundation and the University of Rzeszów in partnership with the Polish Tourist Organization, the Rzeszów branch of public broadcaster TVP and the Foundation Institute for Eastern Studies.
