July 4, 2014
Twenty-five companies and five local government authorities were singled out for praise and received special promotional emblems in this year’s Teraz Polska (Poland Now) competition. The Teraz Polska promotional emblem, which has been handed out for 25 years, is a well-known symbol designed to promote outstanding Polish businesses and institutions.
This year the emblem went to 15 products, eight services, and two innovative projects. In this last category, the Poland Now emblem was granted to the Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements (PIAP) and the Scientific Research Center for Fire Protection (CNBOP). The winners in the local government category were the districts of Michałowice, Dobczyce, Kartuzy, Legnica and Lublin.
During the awards ceremony, which was held in Warsaw in June, the winners of the Wybitny Polak (Outstanding Pole) competition were also announced. The competition, now in its fifth year, aims to honor individuals whose professional success and social position have helped promote Poland internationally. This year, the title of Outstanding Pole went to central bank chief and former prime minister Marek Belka; EU Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski; and prominent film director Andrzej Wajda. In addition, public television broadcaster Telewizja Polska was singled out for praise for launching a hybrid television platform and for launching its TVP Regionalna regional television channel. Moreover, the National Alliance of Universities of the Third Age Foundation won an award for undertaking ambitious nationwide campaigns to help senior citizens.
