A Culinary Book Fair July 25-27 at Warsaw’s Center for Contemporary Art will showcase a wide range of cookbooks and host culinary workshops to help audiences connect with their inner chefs.

Some treat books on food as souvenirs from remote corners of the world; to others they are collectibles, works of art or sources of inspiration. But can cookbooks really teach you how to cook? On the first day of the Culinary Book Fair, special guests will try to answer this question and advise audiences how to turn recipes into culinary triumphs.

The first day will also feature a debate on what Poland lacks in terms of culinary education and whether Poles have grown more knowledgeable in recent years.

On the second day, the main focus will shift to culinary destinations and trips, and audiences will be able to taste dishes from around the world. On the third day, the fair’s guests will explore the ties between cuisine and art.

The Culinary Book Fair is the only event in Warsaw where cooking meets literature. The first fair drew over 3,000 visitors who came to see and buy books from 30 exhibitors, and took part in over 20 accompanying events. Compared with the previous fair, this year audiences will attend more meetings with authors and be able to buy a lot more books, totaling over 1,000 titles from Poland and abroad. The books will be on sale in the courtyard of the Ujazdowski Castle, which houses the Center for Contemporary Art, and in the castle’s Qchnia Artystyczna restaurant. Apart from meetings and debates, visitors will be able to bring their own books and swap them at a book swap shop. Last year, over 800 books changed hands during the Culinary Book Fair.
