Biedronka, Poland's biggest retailer and unit of Portuguese Jeronimo Martins, will spend some PLN 2.1 billion on investments in 2014, Biedronka director general Tomasz Suchanski said on Thursday.
"We intend to invest some PLN 2.1 billion this year," Suchanski told a press conference. "We plan to build some 300 new Biedronka stores and three new distribution centers."
The retailer is on track to break the 3,000 stores mark by the end of 2015, the official said, adding that the firm will develop the network of franchise stores and open small stores under 200 square meters in bigger cities.
In 2013 Biedronka opened 280 new stores, increasing its network to 2393 stores, as well as two distribution centers. The 2013 capex hit PLN 1.7 billion.
