Jazz in the Old Town

Now in its 20th year, the Jazz in the Old Town international open-air festival is widely regarded as an inseparable part of the summer season in Warsaw and one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions. Festival concerts will be held every Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the atmospheric setting of the Old Town Square.

Admission is free.


Upcoming concerts

Aug. 2—Maria Pia de Vito Project (Italy)

The internationally famous Italian vocalist, arranger and multi-instrumentalist will give a one-night-only concert in Poland. De Vito plays jazz, world music and experimental music and is widely acclaimed for the diversity of styles in her inventive projects.

Aug. 9—Roy Hargrove Quintet (U.S.)

A two-time Grammy Award winner, Hargrove is considered one of America’s best trumpeters. A versatile innovator, he has been a member of bands headed by such jazz giants as Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock and Michael Brecker. Hargrove has a distinctive way of combining Afro-Cuban beats with be-bop, funk, soul and hip-hop.

Aug. 16—Ofir Shwartz Trio (Israel)

This will be the first performance in Poland by Ofir Shwartz, a pianist, composer, arranger and producer who is regarded as one of the finest musicians in Israel. Shwartz has received rave reviews around the world. The unique style of the music his progressive trio plays is rooted in jazz, rock and drum’n’bass.

Aug. 23—Johannes Berauer: The Vienna Chamber Diaries (Austria)

The winner of many international music awards, Berauer is one of the most versatile young composers in Austria, his home country. In his music, he has come up with a skillful combination of jazz and classical chamber music.

Aug. 30—Tord Gustavsen Quartet (Norway)

One of the most innovative jazz pianists in Europe, Gustavsen is also one of the most colorful figures on the European jazz scene. He is coming to Warsaw to present his latest, critically acclaimed album entitled Extended Circle.
