Six F-16 jet fighters landed at the Łask air force base, central Poland, on Thursday to take part in a military exercise. The aircrafts have been sent by US in a gesture to show solidarity with Poland after Russia's intervention in the neighboring Ukraine.
"Augmenting the aviation detachment was a deliberate choice to demonstrate to our allies that U.S. commitments to our collective defense responsibilities are credible and remain in force," the Warsaw embassy said in a statement.
Total of 12 F-16 planes and 300 personnel are due to take part in the drills, which will be held in an extended format at Poland’s request amid the worsening situation in Ukraine.
