Portuguese discount-store operator Jeronimo Martins, which operates the largest grocery chain in Poland, opened its 2,500th Biedronka store in this country in September. The store is in Milanówek near Warsaw. Biedronka stores are already available in over 900 cities and towns across Poland.

The new store is the chain’s second in Milanówek. It offers 752 square meters of retail space and has 25 employees working under full-fledged job contracts. The store has six checkouts and its own oven for baking bread.

The newest Biedronka store, with a total area of 1,086 sq m and a parking lot for 33 cars, boasts environmentally friendly systems including energy-efficient LED lighting and a special recuperator device that makes it possible to substantially reduce the consumption of electricity.

Jeronimo Martins owns 2,500 Biedronka stores, 14 distribution centers and more than 110 Hebe health and beauty stores in Poland, employing a total of over 55,000.
