A macabre musical entitled Złota różdżka (The Golden Wand) opens at Warsaw’s Syrena Theater Oct. 30, with the subject matter perfectly suited to Halloween.

Directed by Jerzy Bielunas, the show consists of songs based on horror-filled stories by Heinrich Hoffmann, Stanisław Jachowicz, Detlev von Liliencron and several anonymous 19th-century authors. Wearing extravagant costumes, the actors will recount tales of disobedient and careless children whose attitude leads to gruesome punishment and other misfortunes. For that reason, Złota różdżka is for adults only. The show contains blood-chilling scenes, so be warned.

The sets were designed by Elżbieta Terlikowska and the cast includes popular Polish actors Kinga Preis, Jolanta Fraszyńska and Bartosz Porczyk.
