German automotive giant Volkswagen will invest PLN 3.37 billion in years 2014-2018 in a new van production plant in the Polish city of Wrzesnia, the Polish state investment agency PAIiIZ said on Tuesday.
The plant will produce the new generation of the Crafter van model, Volkswagen management board member Leif Ostling said during a press conference.
"I am pleased to announce that the new generation of Crafters will be produced in a new plant in Wrzesnia," Ostling said. "I am convinced that the plant will create top-quality products which will be sold worldwide."
The construction of the 220-hectares production plant will start in the fall and the production of the new crafter will be launched in Q4 2016, Volkswagen said in a press statement. The target level of van production is planned at the level of 100,000 vehicles annually and should be reached in 2019, Volkswagen official Jens Ocksen said as cited in a press statement of the Economy Ministry.
The plant will employ more than 2,300 people, Volkswagen said.
