Poland’s unemployment down to 13.9pct in February

Poland's registered unemployment rate declined to 13.9% in February from the prior-month level of 14.0%, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS) figures released on Tuesday.

The number of registered jobless at end-January measured 2.25 million. The unemployment rate figure is slightly below the Labor Ministry's prior estimate of 14.0%.

February brought 194,100 new registrations, versus 269,200 in the prior month and down from 224,900 in February 2013.

Employers offered 97,400 new jobs, up from 76,200 in January 2014 and from 82,800 in February 2013.

In February 2014, 250 institutions said that in the near future they planned to lay off 23,900 people, including 3,100 in the public sector
