Politics, Sex and Greed

Article's tools:

Love and Politics, a farce by French dramatist Pierre Sauville being staged at Warsaw’s Kamienica Theater, takes audiences behind the scenes of politics, into a world driven by sex and greed.

Sparkling with witty dialogue, Sauville’s play aims to be both entertaining and thought-provoking as it reveals a web of backroom dealmaking, rampant ambition and lust.

The plot centers on a corrupt minister (played by Emilian Kamiński) being blackmailed by a party colleague. The latter has managed to get his hands on some incriminating secrets but promises to keep his mouth shut if the minister lets his wife go with the blackmailer on a steamy vacation to Guadeloupe. The stakes are high as the two men wrestle over power, money and love. Nothing is what it seems in Love and Politics and the rules change as the game unfolds. The plot forces viewers to wonder who is the real victim and who is the calculating manipulator.

The play is directed by Grzegorz Chrapkiewicz. The cast includes popular Polish actors Grażyna Wolszczak, Magdalena Wójcik and Paweł Burczyk.
