Sending Out a Christmas SOS

Poland’s SOS Children’s Villages organization is again running its annual fundraising campaign to bring some Christmas cheer to orphaned and underprivileged children under its care.

There are over 78,000 children growing up in Poland without their parents and almost 1.5 million youngsters live in poverty. To them, Christmas is about feeling lonely, hungry and homesick.

SOS Children’s Villages provides care for 1,427 such children. Since it was founded 30 years ago, the organization has established four Children’s Villages, or housing estates for foster families in Poland. Each such family provides a home for between five and eight children, who in many cases are siblings from large families. The youngsters who live here were orphaned or abandoned and the Villages give them what their biological families lacked: love and safety.

The SOS Children’s Villages organization also operates day centers for children from impoverished families and troubled homes. In addition it offers support programs for parents.

You can make a donation to SOS Children’s Villages by sending a text message with “SOS” in it to 74565 (zl.4, VAT not included), or by making a donation to the organization’s bank account: 07 1240 6247 1111 0000 4975 0683.
