March 31, 2014
Noc Żywych Żydów (The Night of the Living Jews), is a stage adaptation of a novel of the same title which will open at the Dramatyczny Theater in Warsaw on April 4.
The performance will open the 34th Warsaw Theater Meetings
Written by Igor Ostachowicz, the novel about zombie Jews won Poland’s most important literary award, the Nike. The production at the Dramatyczny Theater is directed by Marek Kalita and Aleksandra Popławska.
The protagonist is an ordinary, if somewhat jaded, middle-class Warsaw resident in his thirties. He and his girlfriend share an apartment in Warsaw’s Muranów neighborhood, which, in fact, is a huge burial ground for thousands of Jews who perished in the ruins of the Warsaw Ghetto decades ago.
One day, the protagonist comes into possession of a mysterious talisman, a silver heart that went missing before the war. Designed to protect Jews from evil, the artifact becomes a coveted item for zombie Jews who crawl out of a dark void through the basement of the building where the main characters live.
The cast includes: Marek Kalita, Agnieszka Roszkowska, Michał Czernecki, Katarzyna Herman, Zdzisław Wardejn, Krystian Krzysztof Ogłoza, Henryk Niebudek, Agata Woźnicka
