Tolstoy for Our Times

Article's tools:

Warsaw’s Powszechny Theater is staging an adaptation of one of the most famous Russian novels, War and Peace.

The new stage version has been written by Paweł Sztarbowski and is directed by Marcin Liber, for whom Leo Tolstoy’s historical epic is an opportunity to explore contemporary conflicts, the atrocities of war and Russia’s imperial ambitions. At the same time, the play examines how Poland perceives its mighty neighbor to the east.

The sets were designed by Mirek Kaczmarek and the costumes by Gruppa Mixer. The production features a score by Krzysztof Kaliski and Filip Kaniecki. The cast includes Aleksandra Bożek, Mariusz Benoit and Sławomir Pacek.

Upcoming performances: Jan. 30 and 31, 7 p.m.
Powszechny Theater; 20 Jana Zamoyskiego St., Warsaw
