Some of the best satirical cartoons produced last year will be on show at Warsaw’s Museum of Caricature and Cartoon Art in an exhibition that opens in March.

The Best of the Best. Drawings of the Year 2014 exhibition consists of drawings and other work submitted throughout the year for the museum’s Picture of the Month competitions. The 100 best submissions will be exhibited at the museum until May 17.

The Picture of the Month series of competitions was held for the third time last year and was open to participants from across Poland. A total of 1,794 submissions were made by 247 artists, including both established caricaturists and up-and-coming cartoonists. Items shown in the exhibition took first, second and third prizes in the monthly competitions as well as winning honorary awards. Sparkling with bright ideas, humor and spot-on social commentary, the pictures tackle a variety of hot issues ranging from politics and society to the economy, sports and technology.

Another exhibition at the Museum of Caricature and Cartoon Art showcases work by Zbigniew Wo¼niak, one of the most popular caricaturists and satirical cartoonists in Poland. Wo¼niak’s drawings have an air of surrealism about them, and are full of symbols, metaphors and satirical references to everyday life and current events. This individual exhibition is Wo¼niak’s reward for winning the “Best of the Best. Cartoons of the Year” competition in 2013.
