Wyspianski’s masterpiece reinterpreted at 34 WST
April 9, 2014
One of the most outstanding Polish dramas “Wesele” (The Wedding), written by Stanisław Wyspiański will be shown at the Dramatyczny Theater in Warsaw on April 10 as part of the 34th Warsaw Theater Meetings
The spectacle, directed by Marcin Liber is brought to Warsaw by the Polski Theater from Bydgoszcz.
The play describes a real-life event – the wedding of Lucjan Rydel, a poet, and Jadwiga Mikołajczykówna, a peasant girl. It took place in the village of Bronowice, near Cracow. The drama has been thoroughly analyzed and has numerous interpretations.
The authors of the Bydgoszcz show intend to combine and juxtapose a sociological observation with an exploration of the spiritual and ritual subject matters hidden in Wyspiański’s masterpiece.
