The Talented Mr. Ripley on Stage

Article's tools:

The Studio Theater in Warsaw is staging a play based on The Talented Mr. Ripley, the famous novel by Patricia Highsmith.

Scheduled to open March 15, the new play is directed by Radosław Rychcik, who has made a name for himself with unconventional productions. The Talented Mr. Ripley is the first in a series of five novels featuring the murderer Tom Ripley, a charming but ruthless psychopath. In his theatrical take on Highsmith’s psychological thriller, Rychcik aims to uncover what lurks in the mind of one of literature’s most notorious antiheroes.

The story begins with American financial tycoon Herbert Greenleaf looking for somebody to help him bring his son Dickie home. Dickie is living a carefree life in the seaside resort of Mongibello, Italy. Ripley seizes this opportunity. With nothing to lose, he leaves for Europe where, hungry for success, admiration and money, he takes on different identities, switching between his personae like the best of actors. He strives to be perfect and when people get in his way, he kills them in cold blood.

Upcoming performances: March 15, 7:30 p.m.,
March 17 and 18, 8 p.m.
Studio Theater; Palace of Culture and Science, 1 Defilad Sq.
