Subtle, Seductive Jazz

Jazz vocalist Agnieszka Wilczyńska will be promoting her latest album in a special concert at Warsaw’s Polski Theater May 20.

Wilczyńska’s Tutaj mieszkam (This Is Where I Live), is packed with new songs by top Polish composers, including Włodzimierz Nahorny, Jerzy Matuszkiewicz and Andrzej Jagodziński. The tracks have been arranged by Jagodziński and Michał Tokaj, while the lyrics for all the songs on the album were written by Wojciech Młynarski. Młynarski, one of Poland’s most celebrated lyricists, will be the host of the concert at the Polski Theater.

Tutaj mieszkam offers a wide range of jazz-flavored music genres, from jazz ballads, swing and bossa nova to jazz waltz, blues and tango. The songs bring out the best in jazz as a combination of straightforward melodies and sophisticated harmonies. The arrangements feature a rhythm section, wind instruments, a string quartet, guitar and accordion.

Wilczyńska, who has two gold albums under her belt, is known to audiences from the theme song of a popular Polish soap opera. With her deep, warm voice, she seduces listeners with outstanding clarity and subtle emotions.

In Warsaw, Wilczyńska will be accompanied by a select group of Polish jazz musicians, including Andrzej Jagodziński (piano, accordion), Michał Tokaj (piano), Łukasz Żyta (drums) and Konrad Zemler (guitar). Joining them on stage will be The Time Quartet comprising Maksymilian Grzesiak (violin), Katarzyna Boniecka (violin), Agnieszka Dobrzyńska (viola) and Małgorzata DuĽ (cello).
