Poland will join the rest of the world in celebrating the first International Yoga Day.

June 21 was declared International Yoga Day last December by the United Nations General Assembly, as a way of acknowledging the beneficial and therapeutic effects of this ancient practice. In Poland, International Yoga Day will be taking place under the auspices of India’s ambassador to Warsaw, Ajay Bisaria. The organizers are the PSJ association of Polish yoga schools, the Indo-Polish Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Art of Living Foundation Poland.

The main events will be held in the Pole Mokotowskie park in Warsaw. Yoga enthusiasts will be treated to a rich selection of yoga-related events, including exercises, concerts, lectures and panel discussions, some of them dealing with the cultural heritage of India.

Yoga and a healthy lifestyle are a natural match, and participants in Yoga Day will get to learn about Ayurvedic medicine, try natural Indian delicacies and buy organic food and other organic products, including cosmetics. Numerous designers will exhibit their collections of yoga outfits and colorful clothes made of environmentally friendly materials.

International Yoga Day will begin at 8 a.m. with a special asana sequence—a series of yoga poses.

International Yoga Day is for both yoga practitioners and people who have never tried yoga before. With many different schools of yoga present, visitors to the Pole Mokotowskie park will be able to see a number of styles and talk to various yoga instructors. International Yoga Day events will be suitable for people of all ages and whatever their level of fitness.

Tomasz ¦ledĽ from the Art of Living Foundation Poland says that what all the many different styles of yoga have in common is the pursuit of a better quality of life. “During International Yoga Day, everybody will be able to take a step towards making his or her life better.”
