Warsaw has made it into the top 15 of a global league table ranking cities on how friendly they are to people aged between 15 and 29.

The Youthful Cities Index puts Warsaw in 15th place internationally and fifth in Europe, behind London, Berlin, Paris and Amsterdam. This year’s Youthful Cities Index is based on interviews with 10,000 young people from around the world, who rated different aspects of living in their cities, including culture, public transportation, quality of education and local universities, and job opportunities for the young.

The Youthful Cities Index also looks at factors such as the cost of movie and metro tickets, monthly rents in apartments, minimum wages, and openness to LGBT communities, religious minorities and immigrants. Other factors taken into account include the environment, public areas, safety and night life.

New York City came top in this year’s Youthful Cities Index. Warsaw is behind cities such as Los Angeles, Toronto, San Francisco, Tokyo and Tel-Aviv, but ahead of Sydney. In Europe, it is ahead of Madrid and Rome.

The Youthful Cities Index is intended to help young and mobile city dwellers around the world decide which city would suit them most and to point out to the authorities of different cities where they need to improve.
