Cybercrime is rising at an alarming rate. Your company is holding a major conference in Warsaw—Check Point Security Day 2015—to bring together Polish and international experts and discuss effective ways to fight threats posed by cybercrime.
The threats have indeed been increasing every year. Every hour, businesses and organizations around the world are targeted by 106 cyber attacks. That is 48 times more than in 2013. Last year, 83 percent of businesses fell victim to attacks of the botnet kind. Despite security defenses and network security software, many organizations are still exposed to such threats due to human error.

Is the human factor the biggest problem then?
Staff who fail to observe security rules and the use of mobile devices that are vulnerable to hacking are two major problems than can cause businesses to suffer huge losses. What’s worse, different organizations often have security software installed by providers that lack the necessary expertise. As a result, 96 percent of businesses surveyed in 2014 used “dangerous applications.” This is 10 times more than in 2013.

Are hackers mainly after our money or are they more interested in intercepting our personal data?
They want to take control of confidential data and make a profit out of it by, for example, selling it to the competition, stealing money from credit cards and so on. Let me cite the conclusions of the 2015 Security Report by Check Point. They make things perfectly clear: 72 percent of companies surveyed around the world found confidential corporate data to be the most vulnerable side of doing business as far as cybercrime was concerned. At the same time, 67 percent said mobile devices used to access or store corporate and personal data needed better security.
