Poland plans no increase in excise on tobacco & alcohol this year
May 8, 2014
The Polish government plans no increase in tobacco & alcohol excise in 2015, deputy Finance Minister Jacek Kapica said on Wednesday.
"We plan no further increase on excise for alcohol next year," Kapica said. ". . .it makes no sense to hike excise to account for 1% inflation that we now have."
In case of tobacco, Poland reached the minimum EU-required excise level and "does not envisage an excise hike next year," Kapica said.
The government hiked excise for alcohol by 15% as of January 1, 2014 and raised excise for tobacco by 5%, estimating additional annual revenues at PLN 780 million and 345 million respectively.
