Mikhail Khodorkovsky
Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza awarded the Russian oligarch and dissident Mikhail Khodorkovsky the Person of the Year award on May 9 during its 25-birthday celebration in Warsaw.

The award-giving ceremony was attended by the Polish president Bronislaw Komorowski, who gave state distinctions to some of the daily’s journalists and founders.

Leszek Balcerowicz, the father of Poland’s economic reform after 1989, delivered a laudation for Khodorkovsky.

The longstanding editor-in-chief of GazetaWyborcza Adam Michnik called Khodorkovski: “the man who has undergone the way from Nelson Rockefeller to Nelson Mandela, from great fortune to great courage and dignity”.
