Polish theater director Grzegorz Jarzyna was presented with an honorary award on 10 May, at the opening of the 19th İstanbul Theater Festival by the festival director Leman Yılmaz.

The ceremony was held at the Muhsin Ertuğrul Theater in İstanbul's Harbiye neighborhood after his play “No Matter How Hard We Tried” was staged as part of the 600th anniversary of Turkish-Polish relations.

The play was one of two productions that Jarzyna presented at the festival, along with “Nosferatu,” a play based on Bram Stoker's “Dracula.”

Jarzyna is known for his brave interpretations of classical plays and stage adaptations of European novels. The award-winning director turned Warsaw-based Teatr Rozmaitosci into TR Warszawa, which is considered one of the most innovative theaters in Europe.

The Festival closed with a DVD screening of Jarzyna's play “2007: Macbeth.”
