Polish Pavilion Draws Crowds at Expo in Milan

Over a million people have visited the Polish pavilion at the Expo 2015 world exhibition in Milan, Italy, since the event opened May 1 this year.

An especially large crowd visited the Polish pavilion Sept. 13 when Polish Day was held at the exhibition. Opening Polish Day celebrations, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Janusz Piechociński said, “This ceremony and Poland’s participation in the Expo is a great opportunity to strengthen the image of Poland as a modern country and a reliable economic partner.”

During the ceremony, which was also attended by the Italian minister of the environment, Gian Luca Galletti, Piechociński said that the main theme of this year’s Expo, “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” offered Poland an opportunity to present one of the most competitive branches of its economy—the agriculture and food sector. “Our country’s participation in the Expo, however, goes beyond the framework of the main exhibition. We are showcasing Poland as an active and valuable member of the EU, a modern state respectful of its traditions, with a stable and constantly growing economy,” said Piechociński.

The Polish pavilion is setting records in terms of popularity. Bożena Lublińska-Kasprzak, head of the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP), which is overseeing Poland’s presence at the Expo 2015 exhibition, said, “We have already achieved the number of visitors we expected [over the full six months that the event runs, until Oct. 31]. In particular, we are happy with the results of our business promotion program—its tangible benefits are being noticed by hundreds of entrepreneurs from across the country who are establishing productive ties with partners from Italy and other countries.”

The program being carried out by the Polish Agency for Enterprise development in connection with the Expo in Milan includes support for the development of foreign trade in the food, agriculture and food processing sectors. Polish companies are taking part in events being held both at the Polish pavilion and at trade fairs, seminars and business missions in Italy.

The Polish pavilion stands out with its original facade that refers to crates of apples, of which Poland is the largest exporter in Europe. Visitors have been handed several tons of apples, and traditional Polish dishes such as pea soup and dumplings are also being served. Guests are also being provided with food for the soul. Several times a day the Polish pavilion is hosting piano concerts promoting the 17th Frederic Chopin International Piano Competition, which starts in Warsaw in October.
