The 10th A Puppet Is a Human Too festival will be held in Warsaw Oct. 12-20, featuring plays for adult audiences performed by the best puppet theater companies from around the world.

Organized by the Unia Teatr Niemożliwy (Impossible Theater Union) association, A Puppet Is a Human Too is one of Europe’s largest puppet theater festivals targeted at adult audiences. Featuring thought-provoking performances, the festival seeks to bring the worlds of cinema and theater closer together while the productions staged will mix traditional theater with performance art, concerts and animation.

This year’s program comprises dozens of plays and movies from around the world, including Antigone, a Dutch play directed by Nicole Beutler and Ulrike Quade; Micro-Shakespeare, directed by Toti Toronell; and Don Juan, directed by Ivan Gontko from Slovakia. Warsaw audiences will also see theater groups from Russia, Israel, Portugal and Iran. Plays staged by Polish puppet theaters will include the Kazio Sponge Show, a musical comedy directed by Anna Makowska-Kowalczyk, and Cinnamon Shops, a shadow puppet play performed by the Kubu¶ Puppet and Actor Theater from the city of Kielce.

Other festival events will include a section focusing on contemporary animation master William Kentridge, and screenings of films that won awards at this year’s Animator festival in Poznań. This year’s festival will also feature the first International Animated Film Competition for Young Filmmakers.
