The Curse - political horror series at Imka Theater
May 21, 2014
The second part of the Curse (Klątwa), episodes from the time of hopelessness, a hot, political, theatrical series written by Paweł Demirski and directed by Monika Strzępka will open at Warsaw’s Imka theater on May 22.
The play premiered on May 16 at the Łaźnia Nowa Theater in Cracow.
The performance maintained in the formula of political fiction and horror was created as a multi-layer story disassembling the mechanisms ruling the history.
Four consecutive episodes of the series are related to each other but they can also be watched separately.
In the first episode entitled "Don’t mess with Jesus", shown at Imka in March, all parliamentarians died in some mysterious circumstances. This happened at the moment when the society shown on the stage, engaged in meaningless games was in vain seeking liberation from the clinch of divisions and opposition and started doubting seriously the sense and purpose of their existence. The real disaster causes more chaos, distrust and insecurity among the characters. They turn to believe even stronger in signs and prophecies, in curses.
Noone really knows whether the situation was provoked or just used by Jesus Christ returning to earth in order to make a new order in a state deprived of lawmakers.
The death of parliamentarians shown in the first episode of the series encourages reflection over the social-political model of operation in the public space. The disaster reveals the faults of such model and reveals temporary state of political consciousness, which makes room for new order.
In the second episode, entitled Religion Lesson, the time stops. The real hell is within reach. The characters try to go back to the old order, desperately believing that the views held and solutions accepted so far are useless in the final bid.
The key does not open the door, someone wants to go Home but Wake up on the bank of Wisla River, someone else is walking in the park and then finds out he is in fact attending his own funeral. Someone else understand he has made mistakes all his life and now has to pay for it a subscribed price.
Lay views treated as religion do not bring salvation. The fate can only get worse. Vatican triumphs, millions of Europeans become converted. The Devil descends on earth.
The Curse, episodes from the time of hopelessness, is the first theatrical series by Strzępka and Demirski. They chose this form as they say an extended story, divided into episodes will better show the pulsating and constantly changing reality, especially in the politically and socially stormy times.
The performance is co-produced by Imka Theater in Warsaw and Łaźnia Nowa Theater in Cracow.
Cast includes Klara Bielawka, Krzysztof Dracz, Dobromir Dymecki, Anna Kłos-Kleszczewska, Radomir Rospondek, Alona Szostak and Paweł Tomaszewski.
