Poland's potential accession to the euro-zone is "very risky from the economic point of view," albeit it may seem interesting in the political terms, central bank NBP head Marek Belka told journalists in London.

Poland's economy is not sufficiently "competitive structurally" to enter a currency union with Europe's strongest economy, Germany, Belka said.

"The Polish economy has a long way to go before it becomes an ideal member of the currency union," central bank governor said. "I am not saying that we will never enter the euro-zone, but at the current stage we are striving to make the best possible use of the time we have, in order to prepare ourselves well."
