Experts criticize free textbook for schoolchildren

Parliamentary legislative analysis center issued critical opinions on the government-proposed reform which introduces a single free-of-charge textbook for first-grade primary school pupils.

Experts point out inconsistencies in defining the schools' new obligations and relevant subsidies, and say the new law infringes on teachers' freedom to autonomously choose teaching materials, a privilege guaranteed by the teachers' charter.

Moreover, the proposed law could burden local governments with extra costs, they say.
