Ministry of Science announces Horizon 2020 Pact
May 23, 2014
Poland’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, Lena Kolarska-Bobińska, presented the „Horizon 2020 Pact”, an assistance program for Polish scientists to help secure grants from the biggest ever EU research and innovation project, during a Thursday 22 May conference in Warsaw.
“Horizon 2020” is a financial initiative of the European Union aimed at assuring Europe’s global competitiveness, with nearly EUR 80 billion of funding in addition to the private investment that this money will attract, available to scientists and researchers over seven years.
“Horizon 2020 Pact” is a ministerial program meant to assist Polish universities and agencies like the National Science Center and the National Center for Research and Development in the European grant competition.
“We are preparing national and regional contact centers to inform scholars about the Horizon 2020 contests and to implement a mentoring system. We have asked the ministerial agencies to identify the strongest science teams in Poland who have the highest chances of obtaining the EU funding. These teams can count on individual assistance in writing grant applications to the European Research Council”, Minister Kolarska-Bobińska said.
“We need to discuss the possibility of reducing the teaching hours of the scholars competing for these grants. I believe the universities will take that into consideration”, she added.
