Seychelles Eye Polish Business

The Seychelles are eyeing the Polish business incentive travel market, which is worth close to zl.1 billion a year. This beautiful island country in the Indian Ocean has been visited by 2,275 Poles this year, the most from any country in Central and Eastern Europe, just ahead of the Czech Republic (1,969 visitors), Hungary (1,101) and Slovakia (900).

Polish companies spend some zl.950 million annually on incentive travel, according to research by the InDreams agency, which works closely with the Seychelles National Tourist Office.

Firms in Poland have increasingly been splashing out on business and incentive travel in recent years in order to strengthen sales programs and increase revenues.

“The incentive travel market in Poland is growing dynamically, increasing 12-15 percent annually, while the average spending per client is 1,500-2,000 euros, three times higher than by private clients,” says Michał Czerwiński, head of the InDreams agency. “That may explain the increased level of interest shown by the Seychelles in Poland and the Polish tourist market.”

Now the tourist authorities of the Indian Ocean archipelago are planning to attract more Polish business clients.

“We would like to change the perception of the Seychelles as an expensive holiday destination,” says Karen Confait, a manager responsible for Scandinavia, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Central and Eastern Europe at the Seychelles National Tourist Office.

“It is very clear that the Seychelles are the perfect place for business tourism and conferences as well, competing on price with destinations such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It is important to stress that 30 percent of the [Seychelles’ tourism] revenues are from business tourists and that segment is growing.”

There are already Polish companies organizing special anniversary programs in the Seychelles. Inter Cars is one example.

Although the Seychelles, a small island country, has just 90,000 citizens, almost 250,000 foreign tourists visit it every year. Europeans account for 70 percent of that figure, with French, German and Italian visitors among the largest groups. Poland is in the top 20 in terms of foreign visitors, according to the Seychelles National Tourist Office.

The Seychelles tourist market is growing 10-15 percent annually, according to Confait. “This is due to an increased number of flight connections, investment in infrastructure and hotels, and close cooperation with airlines such as Emirates,” she says.
