Bodo, a series focusing on the life of Eugeniusz Bodo, a Polish film and cabaret star in the period between two world wars, will be aired by public broadcaster TVP on its TVP1 channel beginning March 6.

Shooting for the series began May 26 and has taken place in more than 300 locations, including the cities of ŁódĽ, Wrocław and Warsaw. The series consists of 13 episodes.

Bodo, who was born in 1899 and died in 1943, was the most popular actor of interwar Polish cinema and cabaret as well as a director, screenwriter, producer and businessman. A heartthrob among women and a role model for men, he was at the center of many scandals and a favorite subject of gossip. He appeared in nearly 30 films and was a star of prewar revue theaters. He also had a number of hit songs that are remembered in Poland to this day.

Individual episodes of the new series will trace Bodo’s complex career, both his successes and failures. They will give viewers and insight into the unique atmosphere of prewar Warsaw and the entertainment and film industries of the time.

The series will feature Antoni Królikowski and Tomasz Schuchardt in the title role, as Bodo in his youth and later in life respectively.

The series is based on a script by Piotr Derewenda and Doman Nowakowski and is directed by Michał Kwieciński and Michał Rosa.
