Conference and Book Launch at SGH
June 2, 2014
The Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) is holding a conference June 12 on the cooperation of Visegrad Group countries during their first 10 years in the European Union.
The Visegrad Group countries (V4) are Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. All these countries joined the EU in 2004. The conference, entitled Creating Greater Synergies Among EU Countries: A New Perspective for Visegrad Countries, aims to compare and assess convergence/divergence processes between these four new EU members and old member states (EU15). Further aims are to evaluate the role of innovation in the development of Visegrad Group countries and to discuss the experience of Slovakia in introducing the euro as well as the prospects of euro adoption in other Visegrad Group countries.
Following a keynote lecture by Prof. Willem Molle from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands, three panel discussions will take place: on the future of “economic convergence and cohesion;” on “innovation for competitiveness in the V4 group;” and on “euro-area prospects.”
The newest edition of the Poland Competitiveness Report 2014: A Decade in the European Union, a book produced by the Warsaw School of Economics’ World Economy Research Institute, will be launched during the conference. The book seeks to determine Poland’s competitive position in the European Union 10 years after the country’s entry into the bloc. The country comparisons conducted in the book, both quantitative and qualitative, allow the authors to forecast future trends and indicate some policy priorities.
The conference, co-organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, will be held under the auspices of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Warsaw Voice and The Polish Science Voice are among the media partners of the event.
The conference is open to the public. More information and the detailed agenda are available HERE
