A number of Poles who emigrated to Great Britain in search for work are breaking their ties with Poland by taking British citizenship, the daily Rzeczpospolita reports.

Some 6,000 Poles received British citizenship in 2013, which was double the number recorded in 2012.

Decision of Poles to acquire British citizenship may result from the discussion on the relations of the United Kingdom and the EU, the spokesperson of the Polish embassy Konrad Jagodzinski said.

According to Silesian University expert Ewelina Wiszczun, the drive to take the British citizenship by the Poles is related to the announcement of the British government's plan to make immigration policy stricter.
