A music festival honoring Włodzimierz Szomański, a Polish gospel musician who died in a car accident more than two years ago, will be held in Mieroszów near the southwestern city of Wałbrzych July 8-10.

The idea of the Gospel and More Festival, which will take place for the third time, is to promote all kinds and styles of music, not just gospel. This year’s event will feature musicians including the Spirituals Singers Band, with Szomański’s daughter Olga Szomańska and Marcin Kołaczkowski performing songs from their new album entitled Oku-La-La-Ry. Other performers include the Diexe Tigers Band jazz band and the Klassik Modern Chamber Orchestra, which will play film music under the direction of Roman Samostrokov.

Festival guests will also have an opportunity to view two exhibitions of photographs and paintings by local artists.

The most important part of the event is a vocal competition to help young artists start a career in music. This year, popular Polish actress Teresa Lipowska will chair the jury.

One of the attractions of the event will be a recital by Monika Federyszyn, the winner of last year’s competition.
