Poland may face difficulties on the labor and social insurance market in the coming years as indicated by the current trends in demography, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) said.

"In the next five years, working age population is expected to shrink," GUS said.

In 2013, Poland saw the number of Poles past working age rise by 0.6 ppt year on year to over 7 million, an 18.4% share of the total population.

The demographic trends may lead to difficulties on the labor market and for the social security system, GUS warns.

"The ongoing process of aging of the Polish population, resulting from the positive phenomenon of increasing average life length is exacerbated by low fertility rates," GUS writes.

"In the future it will cause decreased supply of workforce on the market and challenges for the social security system," GUS added.
