PiS wants committee to investigate property of former president
June 13, 2014
Poland's largest opposition party Law and Justice (PiS) will file a motion for setting up an investigative committee into the property of the former President Aleksander Kwasniewski and his wife.
Back in the time of PiS government anti-corruption bureau CBA tried to prove that some of Kwasniewski's property was illegally acquired. It is not yet known whether the idea to establish the committee will be supported by the ruling party Civic Platform (PO).
Junior coalition Polish People’s Party (PSL) is unanimously against the idea.
Leftist party Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), from which president Kwasniewski stemmed, is divided on the matter, though the party is more inclined to motion for a committee against abuse of competences by the former head of CBA Mariusz Kaminski.
On Tuesday Sejm, lower house failed to scrap immunity of Kaminski with the help of opposing and abstention votes from PO.
