Peugeot 3008 is this year's "Car of the Year". A jury comprising 58 European journalists from 22 countries was impressed with the styling of the body and interior as well as the functional features of the new model.

The new Peugeot 3008 is the first SUV and Peugeot's fifth model to receive the COTY award in its history, which goes back to 1964. It is an excellent response to the needs of discerning customers, who are seeking new experiences and opportunities to stand out from the crowd. It successfully brings together an attractive body (4.45 m), driving comfort and excellent handling.

The spectacular state of the art i-Cockpit® constitutes an innovative driver's environment concept. It delivers more intuitive vehicle control and an unforgettable driving experience through its compact steering wheel, a 12.3" diameter virtual instruments panel and a central capacitive touchscreen with "toggle switches"

Both petrol and diesel engines are available. All units comply with EURO 6 exhaust emissions standard.

The model available for testing was powered by a 1.6 l turbocharged inline petrol engine delivering 165 HP. The 240 Nm maximum torque generated at 1400 rev/min accelerated the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 9 seconds and was sufficient to achieve a top speed of 205 km/h. A 6-gear, sequential automatic transmission together with low vehicle weight (1300 kg) ensure good performance. According to technical data, its average fuel consumption is 6l/100km. However, our tests showed that last figure should be somewhat higher. After driving for almost 700 km, the on-board computer calculated the average fuel consumption at 8.6l/100km. Perhaps the increased thirst was due to the sporty driving style encouraged by the quick revving engine and the smooth transmission as well as the direct steering system and a forgiving suspension able to deal with less than perfect roads. The significant clearance (22 cm) means that the car can be taken off asphalt roads, which will undoubtedly be a benefit to some.

As will its features and functions. The vehicle can easily accommodate up to five adults and still leave 520 l of room in a large and roomy boot. If needed, seats can be folded and this increases the cargo space to 1482 l. What more do you want?

The attractive styling and functional qualities have not only been appreciated by automotive journalists, but also by customers. The demand is such that currently there is a four-month waiting list for a new Peugeot 3008...
