Ciech chemicals unit plans group lay-offs
June 23, 2014
Chemicals group Ciech launched group redundancies at its Organika-Sarzyna unit and plans to lay off up to 90 persons by end-November, the firm said in a market filing.
"The reason of the planned group lay-offs is especially the need to introduce organizational changes without additional investments," the filing reads. "[The changes] are aimed at increasing labor efficiency."
Layoffs will take place from July 28 to November 30, 2014, the firm said.
Organika-Sarzyna has been an acquisition target of chemicals firm Pulawy, a unit of Grupa Azoty, and, more recently, of large-cap chemicals group Synthos. Ciech had voiced its intention to shed the assets, but the firm's new owner KI Chemistry, controlled by magnate Jan Kulczyk, wanted Organika-Sarzyna to remain in the Ciech group.
