Polish unemployment falls to 12.5pct in May

Poland's registered unemployment rate decreased to 12.5% in May from the prior-month level of 13.0%, according to Central Statistical Office (GUS) figures released Thursday.
The number of registered jobless at end-May measured 1.987 million.
May brought 166,700 new registrations, down from 172,500 in the prior month and down from 176,200 in the prior-year period. At the same time, 259,100 people were crossed off the register.
Employers posted 95,900 new job offers for the month, down from 102,000 in April and up from 76,400 in May 2013.
At the same time, 266 enterprises declared plans to lay off 22,800 staff in the near future.
