Illegal trade of tobacco goods on the rise

Poland lost PLN 2.84 billion in potential excise tax revenues on tobacco in 2013 as Poles bought 6.1 billion cigarettes on the black market, consultancy KPMG said in a report.

Also a report by research center Transcrime indicates an increase in illegal trade of tobacco goods in Poland. Illegal cigarettes accounted for 13.9% of total consumption in 2013, up by 0.9 pps year on year, while legal sales fell by 11 pps y/y, KPMG said.
