British historian and Poland specialist Norman Davies received Polish citizenship from President Bronislaw Komorowski in a ceremony on Friday in Warsaw's Belvedere Palace.

Polish President said he was very happy to grant Davies the citizenship on the 25th anniversary of Poland regaining freedom.

"For me this is a special occasion, a unique moment when I can grant Polish citizenship to a person who served Poland well and who is a good sign both for Poland and the external world," President Komorowski said.

Davies is best-known for his books on Polish history, including "Red Star: the Polish-Soviet War, 1919-20", "God's Playground", "Heart of Europe", "Rising '44", the Battle for Warsaw" or "Microcosm: A Portrait of a Central European City".
