PGE picks AMEC as contract engineer for nuclear plant construction

Poland's power utility PGE selected British AMEC as contract engineer for its planned nuclear power plant, PGE nuclear unit PGE EJ1 said in a statement.

AMEC offered its services for PLN 1.33 billion.

AMEC competed with consortiums of Mott MacDonald-AF-Consult and URS Polska-Tractabel.

The launch of construction of the first nuclear power block is planned for 2020.

Poland's nuclear energy program assumes the first block will be completed by 2024. The country envisages the cost of the first plant of 3000 MW at PLN 40-60 billion.
