Trace amount of Mazut fuel oil leaked into the Vistula river from the Kozienice coal power plant in Poland, some 80 kilometers southeast of Poland.

A malfunction at the plant on Wednesday caused a leakage of about nine tons of the fuel, however it was stopped by a protective barrier before it could enter the river. Yet, some "trace" amounts entered the river.

Firefighters were working to remove the fuel that did enter the Vistula.
