Musical tribute to Warsaw Uprising
July 31, 2014
The 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, the bloody armed struggle by Poles against the capital's Nazi German occupiers in 1944, will be marked with a special concert at Warsaw's Studio Theater Aug. 1 and 2.
A compelling account of the uprising was given by poet and writer Miron Bialoszewski in A Memoir of the Warsaw Uprising. Based on his memoir, the concert at the Studio Theater will comprise over a dozen songs composed by Mateusz Pospieszalski and performed by actress Kinga Preis, vocalist Adam Nowak of the band Raz, Dwa, Trzy, and by Pospieszalski himself.
The story of the struggling city and how it went through agony are the leading theme of the songs. Warsaw’s ordeal is given a broader meaning in the concert, representing the tragedy of all wars.
Aug. 1 and 2, 7 p.m. Studio Theater, Palace of Culture, 1 Defilad Sq.
