Polish government Friday temporarily lifted tolls on a section of the A1 freeway for all remaining weekends in August in reaction to heavy traffic.

The government's decision applies to a section of the A1 freeway between Gdansk and Torun in northern Poland. Normally drivers have to pay PLN 29.9 to cover the distance.

“Thanks to that we will be able to avoid many hour-long traffic jams,” Polish PM Donald Tusk said announcing the measure.

Journey is free of charge from 4 p.m. on Fridays till 1.30 am on Mondays.
